Has anyone successfully faded without moving out of the territory?

so far i've managed to avoid speaking to the elders who drop by.

just wondering if they'll eventually give up in a couple years.

anyone have experience with this?.

Stopped meetings in 2006 . Got an Elder visit a few months after we stopped .He stopped by and asked if there was anything we needed to talk about ,We said "NO" ,and that was it for the next four yrs " .......

UNTIL I put some winter decorations up this past winter on our porch......If you want a successful fade DO NOT DO THIS ! lol

It is more important to me to do what I want before I die than to live one more day in fear of these people anymore .( Of course I can say that because all the important people in my life are now out,..... so I can be so 'Brazen".

My decorations brought the Elders radar into overdrive . It became harrassment because I refused to allow them to question my personal life . I sent a cease and desist letter to them and had a law officer explain what No contact means .....that has worked . Since they can not contact me I have no idea if I am DA'd now or not .. I think they are waiting to see what I do THIS winter ,because if it is clearly Christmas decor they can DA without talking to me . (The last time I saw an Elder in public he completely shunned me ,but still talked to my husband ....so I don't know what that means ..am I marked or DA'd ???)

it was 113 in los angeles today.. 107 where i live.. 106 in santa monica which is always the coolest city in the l.a. area.. power outages, fires........all we need is an earthquake.. jdw .

I pulled my flannel pjs out for tonight because it is suppose to be 45 degrees tonite ! Not trying to rub it in your nose by any means ,just saying ..brrr.

I hate when it is unbelievably hot ....like what your experiencing .Hope your air conditioning is better at home than in the car . Can you go swimming ? Or at least a really cold shower ?

If it makes you feel any better we started school in early August this year when the temps were still in the 90's and humidity was 80% ......Now imagine being parked in an un-air-conditioned School bus with fifty sweating ,smelly ,cranky school kids inside .....waiting for twenty minutes as the kindergarten kids find their buses for the year It was like a huge metal sweat box !

what is the policy for disfellowshipped people in your family for when they get sick?

for instance.

let's say your disfellowshipped son/daughter gets seriously sick and needs someone to help take care of this.

I knew an Elder that allowed his adult df'd daughter back into his home ,and the Elder body gave him so much crap about it he stepped down . She was pregnant and needed financial help .

It seems to me small mid-west congregations have a reputation for being more strict and hard nosed . You will find not every Elder body having the same policy (so much for being UNITED ).

I knew another family that had their df'd son still living at home . The father was counseled for still taking his son fishing and doing regular family stuff with his son . The Dad was not a servant so they didn't really have anything to pressure him with ,but they did give a local needs talk that stressed how to treat df'd relatives . It was mentioned you should not be continuing to act as 'business as usual ' because that would be sending the wrong message to the df'd one ! You know it is suppose to hurt and be painful otherwise why would they want to return to the loving arms of the congregation

I had to work because we were barely making ends meet with three little children . Once all the kids were in school I went to work in a little gift shop in town . I liked being able to use my artistic abilities making displays and such . Why couldn't he just be happy for me ?

Hi!! New Here and need to express some feelings

i'm so glad i happened to stumble across this website cause i really need to express what i've been holding inside for quite some time.

i'm 27 and was born and raised in the "truth".

i'm married and my husband was also raised as a jw, been married for almost 7 years and have two kids who have just started kindergarten and preschool.

I share the same story as you .....only add a few yrs . No seriously my childhood sounded very much like yours ....I also waited until I was older to get baptized so I could marry my already baptized boyfriend . Even though I was guilted into being good because I wasn't baptised I was treated as suspicious .

Unfortunately I didn't wake up until I was in my 40's . I already raised my kids as Witnesses . I now work around school kids and it tears my heart to see how much my own kids missed out on in school . The holidays ,extra activities and just having normal friends ....I wish I had the chance to give that to them ,but I don't . Happily my kids survived with minimal damage.

When I first started doubting the religion guilt was one of the main thing I had to overcome . The stories I read here helped solidify my stand . What helped me the most I think was reading "Crisis of Conscience " by Ray Franz . It unlocked the left over hold the religion had on me . His book is not hateful just an insiders view of how things are really done . Once I saw the organization for what it really is ,a man made business/religion and publishing company , I was free .

I hope you will find the same freedom from your past guilt indoctrination , and be able to raise your own children with love of life ,freedom of choice ,and joy of being who they want to become .

Baby(ies) Died From Heat At Convention?

i recall reading from one source how babies were overcome by the heat at a jw convention, with at least one death.. if i'm not mistaken, this was in houston, texas, at the astrodome.. the story goes that doctors at the convention wanted an advisory about the heat read from the platform, but convention officials refused, stating that only wt related material was to be read.. it was stated that the doctors became so upset at this that they quit the wt on the spot!.

has anyone else heard or read that story?.

I grew up in the religion and I remember stories like this way back in the early 70's .

My Mom use to shake her head at how some people did not use common sense when attending conventions (moms w/little babies ,very pregnant women and elderly ) I know she repeated to me about deaths at summer conventions happening ...back then they were outdoor stadiums seven /eight days long ! But to me it seems like an urban legend that has been passed down (maybe started by a factual event but continueing on forever )

My husband served in first aid at assemblies in the 80's-2004. He also stated how so many very ill witnesses would insist on attending when they should have been home on bed rest . Several ended up being sent to the hospital during the convention. No deaths that I recall ....

So why don't the Jehovah Witnesses take up a collection for her to go get the medical care hospital she think she deserves ???? Yeah good luck with that.

But she can insist medicaid should pay not only her bills ,but where she wants treatment ? I think she should be happy she is getting medical help !

Amazing re-connect with some old friends that are now EX-JW

last night i had the privilege of meeting up with a whole family we use to be friends with years ago in the congregation .

they had all come back from across the country to attend a family wedding .because of facebook i was able to get in contact with them once again ,and make plans to see them when they were back in the area.

this is a family that left back in the 1990's .

Last night I had the privilege of meeting up with a whole family we use to be friends with years ago in the Congregation . They had all come back from across the country to attend a family wedding .Because of facebook I was able to get in contact with them once again ,and make plans to see them when they were back in the area

This is a family that left back in the 1990's . Family of six, Father was an Elder ,daughter a pioneer . Back then their older girls babysat our kids ,and their younger sons were best friends of my husbands brother . Mom and Dad were my in laws best friends .

I was pretty niave back in those days, and busy raising our babies so we were not in the "loop" so to speak of what was really going on behind the scenes in the hall at that time . I knew something big had happened because the Elder body was broken apart, some removed and a committeee of outside Elders came in to discipline and give a special talk to the congregation ,mainly on gossip . Last night some of the missing peices of the puzzle were put into place for me . I think it was an eye opener for my husband to hear the truth of how things really were in the congregation . I don't need to go into detail ,but it was another example of how things in this organization are based on people egos , pride ,and NOT God's holy spirit .

It was interesting to hear each of the family members explain their defining moment when thery realized it was not the truth after all . They each faded away at different times for their own personal reasons . Back then just as it is today in the hall when someone stops going you just assume they are weak..., and I know I was guilty of thinking that and for not trying to really find out why they had faded . I listened to gossip and assumed it was correct about them .....sad that i was once that way .

They are all happy now with their choice each in a different place ,but content . We all agreed it was very special to speak to someone from our past that knew our history, and could truly understand where the other one was coming from .

I couldn't make the exjw meetup in Chicago this weekend ,but it turns out I had my own ! lol

It really lifts my spirits to connect with others I knew as a witness that are now free too .
